Villagers demonstrate outside DM''s office

Sheikhpura (Bihar), Jan 31 (PTI) People of severalvillages under Gawai panchayat today demonstrated outsideDistrict Magistrate Dharmendra Singh''s office allegingirregularities in the distribution of the drought relief bythe the Mukia (panchayat head).

The villagers complained to Singh that the MukhiaGhanshyam Thakur had distributed the drought relief to peoplein an arbitrary manner in violation of the norms laid down forthe purpose.

After hearing their grievances, the districtmagistrate ordered a probe by the ADM Mahendra Narayan Singhin the matter.

He also assured the villagers that the drought reliefwould be distributed to those not having received theassistance so far in due course of time.

Sheikhpura district had received Rs 4.15 crore fordrought relief, out of which Rs 3.25 crore have beendistributed.
