Cloud comprised on Kalmadi, CWG report tabled

Suresh Kalmadi
New Delhi, Feb 1: It seems that more trouble is on the cards for sacked CWG OC chief Suresh Kalmadi as reports of the investigating panel on the tainted Delhi Games have been tabled on Monday, Jan 31.

Shunglu Committee submitted an interim report on CWG where it revealed irregularities in awarding broadcast rights for the Commonwealth Games.

Allegations against Kalmadi & CWG OC

Kalmadi, as sources reported, has been accused of his alleged links with contractors "favoured" with broadcast rights.

"The total project costs Rs 28,000 crore. How do you expect me to complete the probe within three months," the head of the panel, V K Shunglu asserted.

However, Shunglu failed to give out details of the report which has been submitted to Prime Minister Officer (PMO) on Jan 31.

Sources said that the interim report blamed the suspended Prasar Bharati CEO B S Lalli for causing a loss worth Rs 135 crore to the exchequer. Prasar Bharati gave a contract worth Rs 246 crore to SIS Live, which is in turn being accused of subletting it to Zoom Communications.

Zoom Communications got the contract for Rs 177 crore but did work for only Rs 111 crore.

Kalmadi is likely to be quizzed again over the allotments of CWG contracts to different broadcasters.

The Committee was set up by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Oct 25, 2010 and asked to submit its findings on financial and managerial lapses within three months.
