PM Manmohan Singh
New Delhi, Feb 1: The internal security situation was by and large stable but serious challenges and threats remained, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the chief Minister's conference on internal security in Delhi on Tuesday, Feb 1.

The Prime Minister speaking on internal security said, there were serious challenges and threats from left wing extremism, cross border terrorism and fundamentalism.

Singh said, “left wing extremism had seen a decrease over previous years, but the number of casualties among civilians have increased. Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand continue to be a cause of concern."

Singh also appreciated Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and his team's effort and their proactive role in tackling the internal security threats and challenges.
