Shimla, Feb 1: Himachal Pradesh police arrested a retired Army captain on Monday, Jan 31 for allegedly spying information about Indian armed forces to Pakistan's secret agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Shimla police sources reported that ex-Army captain Shyam Sunder Guleria was arrested after a tip off on Sunday night from Chandimadir area, which is the headquarters of the Indian Army's Western Command.

Police officials said that Guleria was working as an ISI agent and received huge sums of money through illegal hawala channels. Guleria was under the police scanner for the last few days, when they came to know about his ISI links after the arrest of two hawala operators, Amrik Singh and Bhagwan Dass.

"Acting on a tip off, SS Guleria was arrested from the Chandimadir area Sunday (Jan 30) night," Additional Director General of Police ID Bhandari said.

"The police observed that (hawala operator) Dass regularly visited the Cantonment area. Meanwhile, money was regularly transfered into Dass's son's (Rajesh) account in Raxual (Bihar) by a Mandi-based hawala agent," Bhandari added.

Police officials also added that it is a clear evidence which proves that ISI has been using illegal hawala channels to pay for its informers.
