Violence on first day of PLFI''s Jharkhand shutdown

Ranchi, Jan 31 (PTI) Violence marked the first day of theindefinite Jharkhand shutdown by the proscribed PeoplesLiberation Front of India(PLFI), who killed three persons andset two vehicles on fire today.

Response to the shutdown has been lukewarm in the PLFIdominated districts of Gumla and Khunti and some parts ofRanchi but had no impact elsewhere in the state, sources inthe DGP control toom here said.

Hours before the shutdown began at midnight last night inprotest against alleged arrest of one of their cadres, thePLFI rebels killed three persons of a rival group at Kusaivillage in Ranchi district, the sources said.

All the three victims had extortion charges against themand were released from jail last year.

PLFI activists torched a bus at Khatkhora village inGumla district in the wee hours after ordering the passengersto disembark.

Later in the evening, they set fire to a private vehiclenear Murhu in Khunti district, the sources added.
