Trinamool workers arrested from relief camp for Maoist link

Midnapore, Jan 31 (PTI) Combined security forces todayarrested two inmates of a relief camp, run by TrinamoolCongress in this town, for alleged complicity in the armedattack by Maoists on an Eastern Frontier Rifles camp at Sildalast year.

Maoists overran the EFR camp at Silda, near here,killing 24 jawans in an ambush on February 15, 2010.

Police said the joint forces arrested Asim Mahato andAmiya Mahato from the relief camp and whisked them away forinterrogation for their alleged link to the Maoists.

Protesting against the ''arbitrary action'' of the jointforces, Trinamool Congress activists blocked the station roadin the town, stalling traffic movement for several hours.

They alleged that the two were not at all connectedto the Maoists and that the joint forces personnel ransackedthe camp and assaulted women inmates during the raid.
