TC activists stop traffic, demand dismantling of liquor dens

Kolkata, Jan 31 (PTI) Trinamool Congress workers todaystopped traffic at various points on the arterial EM Bypassdemanding immediate dismantling of illicit liquor dens andarrest of their owners at Salt Lake, the police said.

The protestors alleged that the police remained inactivein making any arrest after six persons died in hooch tragedyat Dattabad of Salt Lake on Friday.

The police, however, denied report of any hooch victim,but said six deaths were reported from various ailments in thearea in the last few days.

Conceding the demands for destroying the illicit liquorshops, the police yesterday dismantled some of them.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Kakali Ghoshdastidarwent on a dharna in front of the office of Additional S P DDas at Salt Lake alleging that Das had ''misbehaved'' with herwhile she had gone to the office to lodge complainst aboutrunning of illicit liquor at Salt Lake.

Party sources said that the Additional S P refused tohear the MP and ''misbehaved'' with her.

The ASP was not available for comment.
