Protesters halt traffic on Western Express Highway

Mumbai, Jan 30 (PTI) Traffic on the Western ExpressHighway was halted for a brief period during a rasta rokoagitation by people affected due to the proposed fly-over overthe Milan sub-way in suburban Mumbai.

The residents of Jambulkaka Wadi in Vile Parle Eastaffected by the flyover project complained that alternateaccommodation has been made for the 70 commercialestablishments in Kandivali, but 160 houses are yet to beaccommodated.

Local MLA Krishna Hegde said that both he and MP PriyaDutt have suggested the service road adjoining the highway bediffered from the flyover project.

"So that 80 houses can be accommodated on the spot and 80can be shifted to houses available for project affected peoplein the vicinity. The families don''t want to go to Oshiwarasince the education of their children will be affected," headded.

He said MMRDA additional commissioner Ashwini Bhide hadassured to speak to the chief secretary Ratnakar Gaikwad inthis regard.
