Fire on board INS Vindhyagiri
Mumbai, Jan 31 (PTI) A major fire has broken out onIndian naval ship INS Vindhyagiri, which was involved in acollision with a merchant vessel, at the naval dockyard heretoday.
The ship is listing and unconfirmed reports said itwas sinking. A defence spokesperson said they are awaitingfurther details.
A dozen tankers are engaged in firefightingoperations, officials said.
An official said there was a dent in the warship dueto the impact of the collision through which water had gushedinto the vessel causing it to tilt to one side.
INS Vindhyagiri had collided with a Norwegiancontainer vessel M V Nordlake, in the Mumbai harbour yesterdayand was brought to the navy dockyard.
