FIR against crew of foreign vessel that collided with warship

Mumbai, Jan 31 (PTI) An FIR was registered todayagainst the captain and crew members of the foreign merchantvessel, which had collided with an Indian Naval warship,police said.

The captain of Cyprus-flagged merchant vessel Nordlakeand its crew members were booked under IPC sections 280 (rashnavigation of vessel), 337 (causing hurt by act endangeringlife or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causingdamage) at Yellow Gate police station, Deputy PoliceCommissioner Khalid Kaiser told PTI.

The Indian warship Vindhyagiri with 400 people onboard, including family members of Navy personnel, and theforeign merchant vessel collided on the navigational channeloff the Mumbai harbour yesterday, resulting in fire.

"Following the complaint by Navy authorities, the FIRwas registered against the crew of the merchant vessel. Nobodyhas been arrested so far. Further probe is on," Kaiser said.

No casualty or oil spill were reported in the incidentwhich occurred when family members of the Navy personnel werecelebrating the annual "Day at Sea" on board INS Vindhyagiri.

According to the officials, the Naval ship wasreturning while the merchant vessel was leaving Mumbai harbourwhen the two collided at Sunk Clock in the harbour.
