Efforts on to reduce pendency of court cases: Goa Governor
Panaji, Jan 31 (PTI) Goa Governor S S Sidhu today saidthat efforts are being made to reduce the pendency of courtcases through measures such as evening courts.
Addressing the legislative assembly today, the Governorsaid that South Goa district had pendency of around 10,104civil and criminal cases in various courts.
"To eradicate pendency of civil and criminal cases, southGoa district has proposed three evening or shift courts eachat Salcete, Quepem and Sanguem taluka," he said.
The five-day assembly session began this morning atPorvorim complex.
Addressing the legislators on the first day, the Governorsaid that as many as 50 government services have been madeavailable online.
"Government, through Info Tech Corporation of GoaLimited, has set up an e-SMS gateway for the exclusive use ofall the state departments of Goa," he said.
This is the first step towards delivery of information tocitizens through mobile phones, he added.
Citizens can now look forward to receiving variousinformative services on the mobiles," the Governor said.
Sidhu also said that government was trying to contributeto a "green initiative" by using mobile phone technology tocut down usage of paper.
