Chouhan''s threat to go on fast just a "drama": Digvijay

Guna (MP), Jan 31 (PTI) Congress general secretaryDigvijay Singh today said that Madhya Pradesh Chief MinisterShivraj Singh Chouhan''s threat to go on a fast for the sake offrost-hit farmers was nothing but a "drama".

"The Chief Minister instead on indulging in dramaticslike observing a fast, should work in the interest offarmers," Singh told reporters at the Guna airstrip beforeheading to his hometown, Raghogarh along with the Congress MPNaveen Jindal.

Chouhan had yesterday warned to go on a fast fromFebruary 13 if the Centre did not provide assistance tofrost-hit farmers by then.

Singh asked Chouhan to remain firm on his vows, sayingthat his past record in fulfilling commitments was not good.

Chouhan should ensure that farmers'' loans upto Rs 50,000is waived-off as announced by him and also effectively checkblack-marketing of fertilisers, he added.

On the use of force against protesting Congressmen inBhopal yesterday, Singh said he wanted the state government tocontinue with such "dictatorial practises" so that Congressgets energised to work in the interest of people.

Singh said that during his 10-year rule, not a singlefarmer in the state had committed suicide.

Meanwhile, Jindal said BJP''s yatra to hoist the nationalflag at Srinagar''s Lal Chowk was just a "political stunt", asJammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also tohoist the tricolour in Srinagar.

"Why did the BJP not hoist the tricolour at Lal Chowkwhen NDA was in power at the Centre?," he asked.
