80,000 Bihar lawyers stay away from work for two days
Patna, Jan 31 (PTI) Around 80,000 lawyers across Biharwent on a two-day cease work from today to press forabolishing evening courts, affecting the proceedings at PatnaHigh Court and civil courts.
"Around 80,000 lawyers across the state stayed away fromparticipating in the proceedings of the courts," Bihar statecouncil evening courts special committee chairman RajendraPrasad Singh said here.
Holding of such courts, introduced by Patna High Court,was not possible in the state due to the lack of necessaryinfrastructure, he said.
The decision to cease work was taken at an emergencymeeting of the committee on Saturday.
"The power supply across the state is erratic and itincreases the problems of lawyers in participation of eveningproceedings," he said.
One evening court each in 30 of the 38 districts of Biharis functional since December 6, 2010.
