UP Cabinet minister''s relative arrested over rape charges

Ghaziabad, Jan 29 (PTI) Relative of a minister in theUttar Pradesh Cabinet has been arrested for allegedly raping aDelhi-based woman in a moving car on January 23, a policeofficial said today.

"The victim in her complaint the next day had claimedthat a woman named Laxmi Devi called her to Ghaziabad onpretext of providing her a job. When she reached at the oldbus stand there in the evening, Laxmi asked her to sit in acar which was occupied by three or four persons,"Superintendent of Police (Rural) M M Beg said today.

Three of them allegedly raped her in the moving carand at last threw her in a jungle at Muradnagar, he said.

Laxmi was arrested following the complaint and herinterrogation led to the arrest of Sunil Tyagi last night, theSP said.

Sunil is the son of Mahender Tyagi, who is thebrother-in-law of a UP Cabinet minister, Beg claimed, withoutrevealing the minister''s name.

Tyagi was produced in a local court here today whichremanded him to two days police custody.
