Two Commonwealth Games medallists appointed as sports officers

Lucknow, Jan 29 (PTI) On the directives of UttarPradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the state government hasappointed two medallists of Delhi Commonwealth Games and AsianGames as sports officers, an official said here today.

Wrestler Alka Tomar, who won gold medal at CWG inDelhi and hockey player Danish Muztaba, who was member ofmedal winning hockey team at CWG as well as Asian games, havebeen appointed as sports officers at the UP Power CorporationLimited, the official said.

"After sports awards held yesterday, the CM directedto provide jobs to outstanding sportsperson not having anyemployment," he said.

On the directives of Mayawati, a governmentaccommodation has also been alloted to weightlifter SoniaChanu in the state capital.

The CM directed that promotion rulebook should beamended so that sportsmen working with UP police could bepromoted, he said.

Mayawati has also sanctioned Rs 15 crore to upgradefacilities at National Sports Academy at Allahabad andappointment of three international level coaches forgymnastics.

Besides, she has announced an additional Rs 15 croreto promote spots activities in western districts and todevelop rowing facility in Gorakhpur and Hapur.
