Four killed in accident, police fire in air

Suri (WB), Jan 29 (PTI) Four persons were killed and13 others injured when a mini-truck collided with a 10-wheelerlorry in Dubrajpur area of Birbhum district, sparking mob furythat caused the police to fire in the air, the police said.

The accident occurred early in the morning at Taruliawhen the mini-truck, carrying goats and people to the weeklycattle-hut at Illambazar, and the lorry collided head on.

While one person died on the spot, three others weredeclared dead at Suri hospital, the sources said.

A mob blocked the road following the accident.

When policemen reached the spot and asked the peopleto lift the blockade, there was heated exchange of wordsfollowed by a clash that left five policemen injured.

The police then fired two rounds in the air todisperse the mob, the sources said.

Four or five goats also died in the accident.
