Bhujbal, seniormost participant of vintage car rally

Mumbai, Jan 30 (PTI) Maharashtra PWD minister ChhaganBhujbal, who was to inaugurate a vintage car rally to be heldin the city, today suddenly decided to participate in it andbagged the "seniormost participant" prize.

The rally was organised by the Western India AutomobileAssociation.

Initially, Bhujbal was to flag off the rally by drivinga "1947 buick convertible" from Horniman Circle to HutatmaChowk. But, after taking the steering in his hands, he decidedto complete the rally till Bandra and return.

"By completing the rally, he became the first minister todo so and also the senior most driver," sources close to theminister said.

One of the organisers Nitin Dossa, who is owner of thecar said 1947 buick convertible is extremely difficult todrive.

"It''s a left hand drive and there is no power steering.

Present day drivers find it difficult to control the vehicle..

But, Bhujbal drove it effortlessly," he added.

DGP D Sivanandan also drove a 1952 make chryslerconvertible. About 147 vintage cars participated in the event.
