Kiwi man fined $1K for filming best friend's girlfriend in shower
Wellington, Jan 29 (ANI): A man in New Zealand, who filmed his best friend's girlfriend while she was showering, has escaped being jailed and was instead ordered to pay her 1000 dollars in reparation.
Greg Alan Holland, 26, from Christchurch, had on December 27 last year and January 9 this year entered the roof cavity of his home in Parklands where he was living with the victim and her partner.
He entered the cavity through an access cupboard on the second floor and crawled along the beams before removing the insulation above the bathroom vent.
He then used a handheld digital camera to record the victim having a shower, before downloading the images to his external hard drive.
According to The Press, the 24-year-old victim said she felt "very, very, violated and disgusted and betrayed", especially after she and her partner defended him from other people who said he was creepy or sleazy.
"I haven't been sleeping, I haven't been eating. I'm constantly paranoid and always looking over my shoulder," Stuff.co.nz quoted her as saying.
"There were two videos. I saw about five seconds of one of them. That's all I could watch. I just felt physically sick and I was physically shaking and went into a state of shock.
"I felt I was going to wake up any minute from a ridiculously crazy nightmare," she said.
The woman and her partner discovered the videos on January 17 when they were watching a movie via Holland's laptop.
Holland appeared before Judge Christopher Somerville in Christchurch District Court and was charged with making an intimate video recording, before he was discharged.
The victim said that she was disappointed Holland was only fined and not jailed.
"I'm really quite shocked. I feel let down by the legal system. A fine really doesn't reflect the seriousness of the crime he committed," she said.
"He's going to be so smug getting away with only a 1000 dollar fine when the sentence had a maximum of three years jail," she added. (ANI)
