Tension in village after Water dept employee''s murder

Theni, Jan 27 (PTI): Tension prevailed in AppiPatti villagenear Chinnamanur after an employee attached to the watersupply department was found hanging from a tree near the localbus stand today with injuries allover his body.

Police said the 48-year-old employee who was also workingfor Odaipatti town panchayat had gone for work last eveningand did not return and was later found dead.

Agitated villagers blocked vehicular traffic, demanding thearrest of those responsible for the murder. they dispersedonly after top police officials assured them that the culpritswould soon be nabbed.

The man reportedly had some differences with an electedpanchayat member, police said.
