HC intervention sought for proper ambience in Ravenshaw campus

Cuttack, Jan 27 (PTI) A former student leader of theinstitution today sought Orissa High Court''s intervention forensuring academic ambience within the Ravenshaw Universitycampus, even as the varsity authorities filed an affidavitopposing the HC-appointed peace committee report on the hostelimbroglio.

Former Ravenshaw students union President Akshaya Dastoday filed a miscellaneous case urging the HC to take sternmeasures against unruly elements inside the campus and ensurea congenial academic ambience in the premier institution,which had plunged into turmoil for most part of the ongoingacademic session.

The development followed an affidavit filed by thevarsity authorities which opposed the recommendations of highcourt appointed peace committee on the issue.

The committee, which had taken views of allstakeholders including that of the varsity authorities and thestudents, had submitted its final report to the courtsuggesting that East Hostel located in varsity campus shouldcontinue as a boys� residency as before while girl studentscould be accommodated in the already renovated West Hostel.

Retired Justice A K Pariccha was heading the committeeand senior advocates � Kedarnath Jena, Jagannath Patnaik - andNational Law University Vice-Chancellor Faizan Mustafa, memberof State legal aid services authority Manjushree Patnaik andtwo student representatives were members of the panel.
