Collector killing case: Maha govt mulling fast track trial

Mumbai, Jan 27 (PTI) Maharashtra government is mullingtrial of 11 people, accused in the burning alive of additionaldistrict collector Yashwant Sonawane, in a fast track court, atop police official said today.

"We have never come across such a heinous crime. Thegovernment has taken a stand that the case should be expeditedand we have also been told to ensure the punishment given tothe accused at the earliest. Government is considering to trythe accused in a fast track court," Additional DirectorGeneral of Police (Law and Order) K P Raghuvanshi toldreporters.

He said that adulteration rackets in petrol, diesel,kerosene, milk and grease have been busted across the stateafter the incident and nearly 180 people associated with thesegangs have been arrested under relevant sections.

Chandrapur, Vardha, Nagpur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg,Ahmednagar, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai were among the districtswhere the raids were being conducted, Raghuvanshi said.
