Medical student commits suicide, CM orders probe

Patna, Jan 27 (PTI) A first-year student of Patna MedicalCollege and Hospital allegedly committed suicide hereprompting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to order a probe.

Sunny Kumar (17), a resident of Saran district, hangedhimself from a ceiling fan at a private lodge yesterday inSultanganj, city SP Manu Maharaj said.

Asked whether the medico committed suicide because ofragging, Maharaj said the case would be investigated from allangles.

"We have not recovered any suicide note from the place.

Even his father has not said anything about it," he said.

After learning about the incident, Chief Minister Kumarasked the Senior Superintendent of Police B S Meena andDistrict Magistrate J K Sinha to jointly probe the case,especially the allegations of ragging, and submit a reportimmediately, officials said.

Meanwhile, Ashwini Kumar, an MBA student, also allegedlycommitted suicide by hanging himself at his house under S KPuri police station area here this morning, official sourcessaid.

The reason behind the student taking the extreme stepwas yet to be known, they said, adding an investigation wason.
