Jaya alleges underworld link, wants 2G licences canceled

Chennai, Jan 27 (PTI) AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa todaydemanded that the Telecom Ministry immediately cancel all the2G licences alleging that the spectrum money trail had closelinks with mafia don Dawood Ibrahim.

In a statement, she alleged that a firm, to which 2Glicense was issued, was linked to a shareholder of anotherfirm, who was a "front man" of Ibrahim.

"The question is now no longer just one of causing aloss of Rs 1.80 lakh crore to India. It is the question of thesecurity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Indiannation," she said.

Jayalalithaa also asked the Union Home Ministry as towhy it maintained "stoic silence" when it was aware of theseissues.

Terming the telecom spectrum as a "precious nationalresource", Jayalalithaa said "(Union Telecom Minister) KapilSibal, instead of wasting time on verbal shenanigans, shouldimmediately cancel all the 2-G licenses illegitimately issuedunder a patently fraudulent deal".

Flaying the government for its "deafening silence" and"total inaction" on these vital issues, she said "it raisesserious questions about the patriotic credentials of some ofour national level leaders." PTI VIJ BN VSC
