Reddy brothers fail to take on Naidu, dailies

Gali Janardhan Reddy
Ananatapur (AP), Jan 27: A Rayadurgam court in Andhra Pradesh has on Thursday, Jan 27, dismissed a defamation case filed by Karnataka Tourism Minister and Bellary mine barron Gali Janardhana Reddy against Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, another senior leader of TDP Erran Naidu, Eenadu Group Chairman Ch Ramoji Rao and Editor-in-Chief of Andhra Jyothi Radhakrishna.

In 2007, Janardhan Reddy had filed the defamation case against the noted personalities for levelling allegations and publishing stories against his mining business in Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border area.

Janardhana Reddy, the minister in BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in Karnataka, owns Obulapuram Mining Corporation. Recently the Supreme Court-appointed 'Central Empowered Commitee' recommended the apex court to cancel four licenses of the mining company.

The Committee had found that the Reddy owned mining company had resorted to illegal mining beyond the approved area and encroached into Bellary reserved forest, causing destruction to the environment.

TDP had been on a relentless fight against the illegal mining, especially Janardhana Reddy's mining company, in Andhra Pradesh. TDP had been alleging that Janardhana Reddy's company carried out the illegal mining in AP with the connivance of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
