Police officer commits suicide

Mumbai, Jan 25 (PTI) A police inspector todayallegedly committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of abuilding in suburban Mahim, police said.

According to police, Vijay Murudkar (55), AssistantSub-Inspector attached to Bandra Police Station, jumped fromthe terrace of his seven-storey residential building inpolice quarters this morning.

He was declared dead before admission at the hospital,police said.

The inspector''s wife was at home when the incidentoccurred.

Family members alleged that Murudkar, who wastransferred to Bandra Police Station one-and-a-half years ago,was overburdened with work and was sometimes ill-treated byhis superiors at the police station, police said.

"We are verifying the family members'' claims and wouldtake appropriate action against the person concerned if theallegations turned out to be true," Additional PoliceCommissioner (West) Amitabh Gupta said.

No suicide note was found, police said adding furtherprobe was on.
