Dharavi redevelopment project may be revived
Mumbai, Jan 25 (PTI) Long pending Dharaviredevelopment project may have some hope as MaharashtraGovernment today held discussions to develop one of thesectors with the help of the Maharashtra Housing and AreaDevelopment Authority (MHADA).
"The possibility of MHADA developing the sector numberThree as a pilot project was discussed at a meeting held todaychaired by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan but nothing hasbeen finalised," Minister of State for Housing, Sachin Ahirsaid.
Claiming that the MHADA has sufficient funds todevelop the project, Ahir said the planning has to be done forthe sector first.
Asia''s largest slum, Dharavi, has been divided intofive sector redevelopment model. As per the original plan, nodeveloper or consortium will be allowed to bid for more thanone sector to ensure competition.
However, out of seven bidders, only four are in raceafter delay in the process of finalising the developer. Thebidding process may be cancelled if the Government decide togive the project to MHADA for the development.
