A R Kidwai chosen for Padma Vibhushan
New Delhi, Jan 25 (PTI) Former Haryana Governor andnoted educationist A R Kidwai, who was chosen today for thecountry''s second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan, is amulti-faceted personality who has held various positions inhis distinguished public life.
Akhlaqur Rahman Kidwai was Governor of Haryana from2004 to 2009 as well as Chancellor of Aligarh MuslimUniversity from 1983 to 1992.
90-year-old Kidwai has also been the director of theJammu Kashmir Bank.
Born on July 1, 1920 in Baragaon village of Barabankidistrict in Uttar Pradesh, he studied at Jamia Millia IslamiaUniversity and at the University of Illinois.
Kidwai was a deputy minister in the Government ofIndia from 1974 to 1977. He was Governor of Bihar twice, from1979 to 1985 and 1993 to 1998, and Governor of West Bengalfrom 1998 to 1999.
Kidwai was also member of the Rajya Sabha from January2000 to July 2004.
