AICTE sends showcause notice to 1,000 engineering colleges

Chennai, Jan 25 (PTI) The All India Council forTechnical Education has served showcause notices to 1,000engineering colleges across the country, asking them toexplain why their approval should not be withdrawn on grounds,including inadequate infrastructure.

Some colleges were not paying their faculty whileothers were functioning on temporary facilities and lackedproper land documents, AICTE Chairman S S Mantha toldreporters here today.

Speaking on the sidelines of a function at the AnnaUniversity, he said of the 1,000 institutions, 140 were fromTamil Nadu.

AICTE would not compromise on quality, he said.
