Three injured in militant firing on R-Day eve
Diphu (Assam), Jan 25 (PTI) Three persons were injuredwhen Karbi Peoples'' Liberation Tigers (KPLF) militants firedat the passengers of a bus on the eve of Republic Day inAssam''s Karbi Anglong district today, police said.
A group of about five to six armed militantsintercepted an Imphal-bound bus from Guwahati on the NationalHighway 36 near Deopani and fired at the passengers.
Three persons, including a 12-year old boy and thedriver, were critically injured in the firing and the buswas badly damaged.
The injured were identified as Jabey Musai, DimaoSingh and N Angami.
KPLF, a breakaway group of the Karbi Longri NationalLiberation Front (KLNLF) which is currently under ceasefire,has called a 36-hour bandh beginning from today boycotting theRepublic Day celebrations.
KLNLF had entered into a ceasefire with the governmentin February 2010, but a 25-member group of the outfit brokeranks with the ceasefire group and form the KPLF. The attackon the bus passengers was its first major strike. PTI COR DGPR
