Powerful IED recovered, MULTA militants nabbed in Assam

Rangiya (Assam), Jan 25 (PTI) A powerful ImprovisedExplosive Device (IED) was recovered and three Muslim UnitedLiberation Tigers of Asom (MULTA) militants were nabbedon the eve of Republic Day in Kamrup (Rural) district,official sources said.

A powerful IED, weighing more than two kilograms, wasrecovered from near a bridge at Parakuchi by patrolling troopsof the 8 Maratha Regiment.

The entire area was cordoned off with police andsenior district officials rushed to the spot along with abomb disposal squad of the Army which later defused the bomb.

In another incident, acting on a tip-off, troops of8 Maratha Regiment nabbed three MULTA miltants from Maliparaarea of the district.

The militants have been identified as Sabu Ali,Hashmat Ali and Hashimuddin Ali.

The security forces recovered a 7.62 pistol, a rifle,nine live cartridges and some documents from their possession.

The militants were later handed over to the police,the sources said.
