More than 2.28 crore voters in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 24 (PTI)With elections to assemblydue later this year, electoral list in Kerala is ready witha total of 2,28,78,767 voters in the roll as on January 1,state Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto said here today.

However, this was not the final voters list because alleligible persons would have the opportunity to enroll tillthe last date for filing of nominations for assembly polls,Netto told reporters on the eve of ''National Voters Day''.

Special effort had been made to enroll youths in the list,she said adding among the total voters youth in the age ofgroup of 18-19 years would come to around 5,58,728.

New voters as of now would be 10,85,163 including 3,18,493in the age group of 18 and 19 years, she said.

The facility for e-registeration now available to youths inthe age groupd of 18 and 19 years have been extended to allcategory to enable all eligible persons to become part ofelection process, she said.

Among the eligible voters now, male voters constitute1,09,59,199 and rest female. Compared to the latest populationcensus figure, 95 per cent of them have now enrolled as votersin the list, she said.

The photo fixed Election identity cards would be distributedto new voters at 11,478 locations in various parts of thestate tomorrow as part of the National Voters Daycelebrations.

All new voters would be given a badage with writing ''proudto be a voter''.
