LF to target Trinamool with price rise issue
Kolkata, Jan 24 (PTI) The issue of price rise andCentre''s "failure" to curb it would be one of the weapons theruling Left Front in West Bengal would use against TrinamoolCongress, a key ally of the UPA government, ahead of theAssembly polls in the state, a top LF leader said today.
"The Union government is being run by the Congress-ledUPA of which Trinamool Congress is a part. We will mobilisepeople and register protest against the Centre''s failure tocheck spiralling prices of food and other essentialcommodities," Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reportershere after a meeting of the LF committee.
The policies of the government itself are responsible forfuelling the price rise, he claimed.
There have been seven rounds of hikes in petrol pricessince June totalling a hefty 20 per cent rise, Bose, also theCPI-M state secretary, said.
He said that as part of the decision taken recently bytop leaders of the nine non-NDA opposition parties, includingthe Left, to jointly stage agitation from February 3-9 againstprice rise, the Front would organise a picket before centralgovernment offices and hold sit-ins, demonstrations andrallies across the state during the period.
