HC directs EC to consider representation for free poll in TN
Chennai, Jan 24 (PTI) Madras High Court today directed theElection Commission to consider a representation by a cityadvocate suggesting steps for holding the coming Tamil Naduassembly elections in a free and fair manner.
Disposing of a PIL petition, Justice Elipe Dharma Rao andJustice D.Hariparanthaman directed the EC to consider thepetitioner''s representation within four weeks.
In his petition, S.Muthuraj, has submitted he had sent arepresentation to the Chief Election Commissioner and theChief Electoral officer of the state with the suggestions onDecember 27 but they neither replied nor considered them.
He had suggested installing adequate surveillance systemsin all polling booths to ensure that there would be nomalpractice like illicit voting, capturing of polling boothsand wrong management of EVMs.
Assembly elections are due in the state in May.
