Fromer Parliamentarian and journalist''s statue unveiled

Tezpur, Jan 25 (PTI) Assam Forest and Tourism RockybulHussain today unveiled the statue of noted trade union leader,journalist and former parliamentarian Dr Purna Narayan Sinhahere today on the occasion of his ninth death anniversary.

Speaking at the function organised by the SonitpurJournalists'' Union, Hussain pointed out that it was duringSinha''s stint as a parliamentarian that the construction ofthe 3.5 km long Kalia Bhomora Bridge over the Brahmaputra wasinitiated to link people of the northern and southerndistricts of the state.

Sinha was the correspondent of the popular daily theStatesmen and Amrita Bazar Patrika published from Kolkata.

He began the publication of ''MAHAJATI'' a local news paperfrom Tezpur since May 1964.

He was also a popular advocate of Tezpur Bar libraryand Guwahati High Court.

He became the second non Congress elected Lok SabhaMember from Tezpur parliamentary in 1977. PTI cor DG CR
