Darul Uloom withdraws students'' expulsion

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 25 (PTI) The leading Islamic seminaryDarul Uloom Deoband today said it has withdrawn their decisionto expel nine of its students for staging a sit-in protest inthe institute''s premises.

"The expulsion order against the nine students of theseminary have been withdrawn after restoration of normalcy inthe institution and resumption of classes," a spokespersonsaid.

Some students had yesterday staged a sit-in protestdemanding removal of Vice-Chancellor Maulana Ghulam MohammedVastanvi for his alleged comments praising Gujarat ChiefMinister Narendra Modi.

Vastanvi had dismissed reports of confrontation with thestudents and alleged that it was a conspiracy to malign theinstitute''s image.
