Cong accuses BJP of double standard
Bangalore, Jan 25 (PTI) Opposition Congress in Karnatakatoday accused BJP of adopting double standards over theGovernor''s sanction to prosecute Chief Minister B SYeddyurappa and termed it as an attempt to "divert" attentionof people from its "acts of corruption and nepotism".
While BJP insists on a Joint Parliamentary Committee probeinto 2G spectrum even though three inquiries were already on,"it opposes Governor sanction into allegations againstYeddyurappa which have so far not came under the ambit ofinvestigation", KPCC spokesman B L Shankar told reporters.
He rejected the claims by BJP that the sanction forprosecution accorded by Governor H R Bhardwaj amounted toentrusting the land scams to a third probe as it was alreadyunder investigation by Lokayukta and Judicial Commission.
Shankar pointed out that in the backdrop of High Courtstaying the proceedings of the Judicial Commission, it had notcommenced the probe and Lokayukta still awaited an order fromthe court whether the agency will investigate the land scamsor the Padmaraj led Commission of Inquiry.
The BJP Government was resorting to threats againstBhardwaj, he alleged and lashed out at Yeddyurappa for hisstatements that his party was contemplating to file adefamation suit against the Governor for his "ulta chor kotwalko dante" remarks.
Yeddyurappa seemed to lack even basic legal knowledge thatunder Article 361 of the Constitution President and Governorscannot be dragged to court on such cases, he said.
Congress would organise a rally on January 30 with a slogan"Hatao corrupt BJP government in the state", he said. PTI MSRRSVS01251739
