Central security may be sought for Tala water reservoir

Kolkata, Jan 25 (PTI) The Centre will be urged to provideproper security to the 102-year-old Tala water reservoir,Asia''s largest and the sole supplier of piped water to centraland north Kolkata, and protect it from any sabotage orterrorist attack.

Kolkata Mayor told the monthly meeting of the KolkataMunicipal Corporation (KMC) that he will shortly move theCentre for deploying Central Industrial Security Force or anyother central security force for providing necessaryprotection to the 44-million gallon capacity reservoir.

Chatterjee made the statement when Rajiv Biswas(CPI-M) asked if there was any threat of sabotage or anyattack to the Tala water reservoir.

Mayor shot back stating that law and order is thestate government''s subject, but he would urge the Centre forarranging necessary security for the water reservoir.
