Kalmadi thrown out of CWG OC

New Delhi, Jan 24: The key accused in Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam, Suresh Kalmadi has been sacked as CWG Organizing Committee (OC) chief, with immediate effect. Along with Kalmadi, even Lalit Bhanot has been removed as secretary of the OC.

Kalmadi was asked to handover the charges to CWG CEO Jarnail Singh.

Earlier, attorney general Ghoolam Vahanvati gave an opinion to the government, to remove Kalmadi as chairman of the CWG OC. Based on the legal advice the government dismissed Kalmadi and Bhanot.

The top law authorities of the nation advised to the sports Ministry, that the government has the rights to dismiss Kalmadi as OC chairman and Bhanot as secretary of the OC.

The attorney general said that Kalmadi was appointed as the chief of OC by the group of Ministers, therefore, his termination could be decide by the government.

The CBI, which is investigating into the CWG scam also written to the Cabinet Minister KM Chandrasekhar, requesting Kalmadi and Bhanot's dismissal from the OC. As agency believed that if they continued in their post, they would hamper the ongoing probe.
