Husband cut wife, commits suicide:

Erode (TN),Jan24 (PTI) Fearing that his wife had diedafter he cut her with a sickle, a man allegedly committedsuicide by consuming some poisonous substance meant for useas fertilizer here today, police said.

Police said Raju (38) and his wife frequently quarrelled ashe wanted her to stay with him at his house rather than inhis in-laws place at Varapalayam.

Following a quarrel today and as his wife refused to movein with him, Raju allegedly attacked her with an aruval(sickle) and she collapsed in a pool of blood.

Suspecting that she died,he immediately consumed poisonoussubstances kept for use as fertilizer and fell unconscious.

Both husband and wife were taken to Government hospital,Gobichettipalayam, where Raju died en route, police said.

The woman was referred to Erode Government HeadquartersHospital, where she is "progressing," police said.
