Airtel begins 3G operations in Karnataka

Bangalore, Jan 24: One of the leading mobile operators in India, Airtel, launched its third generation (3G) mobile service in India on Monday, Jan 24. Initially the service will be available in southern part of Karnataka. The company said that it would expand the services in 13 circles by end of the Mar. Airtel has won 13 licences out of 22 telecom circles in India.

The Airtel said to have tied up with Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Network and Huawei for installation of high speed packet access (HSPA) network in its 3G circles for India.

Last year, the other service providers like Docomo and Reliance Communications launched the 3G service in India. The state owned mobile operators BSNL and MTNL are also providing 3G service in the country. The Vodafone has declared that it will start to offer the 3G service by Feb.

3G is the next generation mobile in communications technology, that enables to enjoy enanched multimedia services, high speed mobile broadband and internet access with the ability to view videos on your mobile handset.
