Centre not to export beyond 55 lakh cotton bales

The Minister said that his ministry was taking all steps to bring down prices of cotton in Indian market. "The government will allow export of only 55 lakh bales of cotton which is surplus and on no account we will allow more cotton to be exported," the Union Textile Minister said.
For 2010-11 year marketing season (from October to September), the government has permitted
export of 55 lakh bales of cotton. Out the permitted 55 lakh bales 38 lakh bales of cotton have been shipped so far, Maran said.
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had on Friday said that the government may consider to export cotton more as there was more production of cotton. The government has expected 33.5 million bales of cotton in 2010-11.
