Brit-Indian honeymooner murder suspects splurged in Cape Town slum bar after event
London, Jan 22(ANI): Two hitmen accused of murdering Brit-Indian woman Anni Dewani in South Africa had reportedly partied at a Cape Town bar in new clothes hours after the shooting.
According to the Sun, Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni had stunned regulars at the slum bar by buying rounds of drinks.
"Qwabe was buying rounds of drinks for everyone. Mngeni was always broke, but turned up wearing expensive new shoes," the tabloid quoted a local, as saying.
Before the spending spree, the two were heard "making lots of calls" as they got a lift to Guguletu, where Anni and her husband Shrien were carjacked.
It also emerged that Mngeni had been too poor for a ritual circumcision, and needed cash for the tribal rite.
"He was desperate to have it done. He felt inferior to other boys," Mngeni's cousin Lennox said.
It is alleged that Qwabe and Mngeni were hired by Shrien to kill Anni.
Shrien and Anni were two weeks into their Cape Town honeymoon when the taxi they were in was hijacked in Khayelitsha township by two men armed with guns on November 13.
They ordered the driver of the taxi to get out and then took off with the car and the couple.
The 28-year-old Anni was shot dead by the robbers, but Shrien was released unharmed. hrien was later arrested in the UK on suspicion of conspiring to have his wife killed.
The 31-year-old is due to appear in a British court for a preliminary extradition hearing. (ANI)
