Two I-T officials held for accepting Rs 4,000 bribe

Mumbai, Jan 21 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau of CBIhas arrested two Income Tax officials for allegedly acceptinga bribe of Rs 4,000 for processing tax refund claims.

Senior tax assistant Sudarshan Kale and tax assistantSunil Gangurde were caught red handed yesterday whileaccepting the amount from the complainant, a CBI releasesaid.

According to CBI, the officials had demanded bribe forprocessing the Income Tax refund claims of the complainant forassessment year 2009-10.

The complainant approached CBI following which a trapwas laid and the duo were caught. About Rs 75,000 wasrecovered from Kale''s office and Rs 8900 was seized fromGangurde''s office.

Also, searches were conducted at the residences of boththe accused and incriminating documents were recovered.

"It is believed that the duo were habitually taking moneyfrom several persons to process their tax refund claims," therelease added.
