Security and police alerted throughout Manipur

Imphal, Jan 21 (PTI) Security was tightened acrossManipur today in view of the boycott of Republic Daycelebrations by militant outfits.

Official sources said all police and security posts wereasked to step up patrolling and frisking of passersby todetect movement of ultras following explosion of a powerfulbomb at Mongsangei in Imphal West district on Thursday nightto disrupt the celebrations.

Police were deployed at various vulnerable places fearingmilitant attack.

The sources said random checking of people would beintensified and patrolling conducted at various places in theoutskirts of Imphal town to prevent sneaking in of militants.

All insurgent and militant outfits in Manipur havecalled for boycott of Republic Day celebrations as in otheryears.

More than 25 insurgent and militant organisationsoperate in Manipur either demanding secession or smallerstates along ethnic lines.
