Water requirement a must before developing new SEZ: Haryana
Chandigarh, Jan 19 (PTI) With water availability turninginto a major problem for the Special Economic Zone (SEZ)developers in Gurgaon, the state government today said it maynot recommend any new SEZ proposal to the Centre, unless thisissue is addressed.
"At the project evaluation committee meet, we are goingto ask you (SEZ developers) from where you will be meetingyour water requirements for your projects, especially in thoseareas where underground water problem persists," stateIndustry Secretary Y S Malik told reporters here today.
"If you do not have water supply from MunicipalCorporation or public health supply or any other source, thenthe project may not to be recommended for consideration ofthe Centre," he said.
Malik asserted that the state government had already putrestrictions on setting up of new units in the state thatconsume very large quantity of water in its new industrialpolicy.
During the meeting, he asked the developers to set uptheir projects in other parts of the state, especially ininterior areas.
"What is in Gurgaon...bring your (SEZ) projects at otherplaces (of the state) and you can also bring your customersthere," he asserted. .
