Violators of CNT will be dealt with strongly: Minister

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Jan 19 (PTI) Jharkhand Landand Revenue Minister Mathura Prasad Mahto today said therewould be no changes in the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT) asdemanded by the ''affluent section'' of the society.

"The CNT will be strictly implemented. It is not goingto be amended to suit the affluent section of the society,"the minister, also a senior JMM leader, told reporters here.

He was replying to a query as to whether thegovernment has any plan to amendment the CNT, that protectssale/transfer/purchase of the land belonging to the tribals inthe wake of a serious debate between the pro-CNT and anti-CNTgroups.

"No Act is made to suit any particular party orsection. And the CNT Act will not be amended and the normslaid down in the Act have to be followed by all," Mahto added.

Stating that the government had several times made itclear that there would not be any amendment to the CNT, Mahtosaid strict action would be taken against those who violatethe Act.
