Speaker''s security guard arrested

Imphal, Jan 20 (PTI) A security guard of Manipur SpeakerI.Hemochandra has been arrested for running away with hisservice weapon, official sources said today.

The guard, identified as P Kamalkanta(30) ran away withhis service weapon - an AK 47 rifle while the Speaker wasattending a public function at the state guest house hereyesterday.

As soon as the escape was reported to the state policeheadquarters all nearby police stations were alerted, thesources said.

Meanwhile, Kamalkanta forced a man at gun point to drivehim home at Nambol in Bishenpur district. On the way they metwith an accident at Imphal airport area and the guard wasarrested, the sources said.

He was handed over to nearby Shingjamei police station.

The sources said the man was a patient of mentaldisturbance and had been earlier arrested for domesticquarrel.
