Peace activist stresses on Gandian values
Rajahmundry, Jan 20 (PTI) Peace activist from WisconsinUSA, Dr Micheal Andrew has stressed on the need to adoptGandhian philosophy to ensure global peace and prosperity.
He was here to attend the opening of the third batch ofthree-month certificate course on Gandian philosophy for jailinmates at the Rajahmundry central jail last evening.
Andrew said violence had increased in many nations in therecent past and the ideals of mahatma Gandhi were the need ofthe hour to bring harmony among the people.
People should leave anger and strive for peace, he saidadding mutual cooperation and respect to others would helppeople attain self respect.
Stephen Waligur peace musician from Washington DC whoalso participated in this programme said forgiveness was themain source for peace and people should get rid of selfishnessand greed.
He taught prisoners a peace and harmony song andemphasised the need to learn from it to lead a better life.
The certificate course, which was introduced in the jailwith the assistance of University Grants Commission saw firsttwo batches of 82 and 75 prisoners completing the coursesuccessfully.
About 75 prisoners were enrolled for the third batch. PTICOR
