My elevation is important personally and politically: Praful

New Delhi, Jan 19(PTI) Happy over his elevation to thecabinet rank, NCP leader Praful Patel today said the promotionwas important for him both "personally" and "politically" andpromised to bring a "fresh lease of life" to publicenterprises as a minister incharge of the sector.

"I am happy to become cabinet minister. It isimportant to rise in hierarchy...It is certainly veryimportant personally and politically to become a cabinetminister," Patel said after the swearing in ceremony.

He has been elevated to the cabinet rank and shifted fromCivil Aviation to Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

Asked whether he was satisfied with the new portfolio,Patel said the Prime Minister has given him a responsibilityand he has accepted it happily.

Claiming to transform the civil aviation sector into avibrant one, he promised to do the same to take heavyindustries and public enterprises of the country to a newheight.

"Every ministry is challenging...I moved to CivilAviation in the year 2004. It was a relatively small ministrythen. But today, we have been able to transform it into one ofthe vibrant sectors of the country," he said.

"People may look at aviation as glamorous and glitzybut it is a very complex business and running the ministry isequally challenging. I think it is important that every personhas more diversity in his work," he said.

The NCP leader said his priority would be to improvethe performance of the public enterprises which are importantfor overall economy of the country.
