Mother commits suicide after daughter''s rape

Medininagar (Jharkhand), Jan 5 (PTI) A woman committedsuicide after her daughter was raped allegedly by a neighbourin a village of Palmau district, police said today.

The 40-year-old Pujari Devi, alongwith her 16-year-oldvictim daughter, consumed poisoned last night and were rushedto the nearby Sadar Hospital in adjoining Garwah districttoday morning, said DIG (Palamu) Laxman Prasad Singh.

While Pujari Devi died in the course of treatment, herdaughter was undergoing treatment in the hospital, he said.

The girl was allegedly raped by the neighbour SadamHussain on Monday at Rakhsaha village under Rehala policestation area.

A panchayat was convened in the village when thematter came to light after the girl narrated the incident toher mother. However, the mother-daughter duo felt humiliationover the incident and consumed poison.

Police has arrested the accused after an FIR waslodged on the statement of Pujari Devi''s husband.
